Visit Preparation
Please have as much information available as possible. Detailed information about the problem may make a difference in the time needed to complete repairs.
Information of greatest value includes:
- Exact nature of the problem
- Make and model information (if equipment related)
- Location of main water valves or electric service boxes (if applicable)
- Any related damage (if applicable)
- Directions if your home is in a newly developed area
If possible, please clear a path to the work area. We always strive to leave our work area cleaner than we arrived, but you may want to cover or drape any items in close proximity to the work area.
What to Expect
For Plumbing Projects
There are times when it may be necessary to shut off the water supply to your home. It is quite common for rust colored residue to become dislodged when service is returned. If this occurs, you will want to run the clothes washer a complete cycle before washing clothing. This precaution will prevent staining of clothing.
If it is necessary to shut off the water supply, we will give you our best estimate of how long water will be unavailable. You may want to stockpile tap water for drinking and cooking before we proceed.
Replacement of, or service to a water heater will disrupt your supply of hot water. You should plan to be without hot water during the course of repairs and approximately one to two hours after completion.
For Heating and Air Conditioning Projects
It may be necessary during these projects to disconnect some electric and/or gas service to parts of your home. We will reconnect anything when we leave and your service will continue as usual.
For Electrical Projects
When ordering new or replacement switches, outlets, etc., please give consideration to color selection and location before ordering. Also, letting us know the intended use of your new electrical service will allow us to assist you in deciding if outlets should be dedicated or ground faulted.
It may be necessary to disrupt your home’s electric service during repairs or projects. If your home has a security alarm service, please notify the alarm company in advance of the project. Keep in mind that an electrical outage may affect clocks, appliances, fish tank aerators, sump pumps, and timed appliances such as water softeners or filters. These items should be checked and reset upon completion. Also, do not forget to advise your alarm company when service is returned.
For Remodeling Projects
Carpentry and remodeling projects can be very involved. Depending on the size of the project, we will use carpet runners and curtain walls to enclose the work area whenever possible. In addition, you may want to cover or drape items in areas near the project to protect them from dust and dirt. Finally, please remove any furniture or decorating items from the work area that could be damaged during the project.
Generally, we require a dry heated area to set up tools and store materials.
Please let us know if there are special instructions we should be aware of before we begin.
